Meta signs for GPU capacity at Firmus's AI factories in Southeast Asia, with no terms disclosed

Firmus and Meta announced what they call strategic AI infrastructure agreements on 29 September. They cover GPU compute capacity at Firmus AI factories in Southeast Asia built on Nvidia's DSX platform, with contracted capacity plus options to expand, to support Meta's AI research, model development and training.

Meta is already a Firmus customer at home. It uses Nvidia GB300 NVL72 systems at Firmus's Melbourne AI factory, which the release describes as the largest deployment of Nvidia Blackwell Ultra systems in the Southern Hemisphere.

The release is thin on the things an investor would want. It gives no dollar value, no megawatts, no GPU count, no contract length and no named sites. Meta's Gaya Nagarajan calls Firmus “a long-term strategic infrastructure partner” for Asia-Pacific, which describes intent rather than size.

Reuters, in a story carried by The Star, reports that Firmus is preparing a $5bn IPO that could be Australia's second-largest. That figure is Reuters' and does not appear in anything Firmus has published. The deal adds to Meta's reliance on capacity it rents rather than builds, a pattern whose financing an auditor flagged in a story that ran here on 21 September.
